Did you know that google may visit your website email list with a penalty if affiliate or sponsored links are not properly followed? Also, did you know that if you make a mistake, you run the risk of indefinitely suspending your amazon associates account? Yes. This is important. Unfortunately, most of the guides out there aren't up to date on the latest behavior of wordpress and don't explain how to fix this on existing sites. So i'm here to help :) in this post, you will learn the following: what is a nofollow link? Why does "no follow" exist? Why you shouldn't follow affiliate links do i need to use rel = "sponsored" instead of nofollow for affiliate links? How to "do not follow" links correctly in wordpress why you shouldn't leave the default wordpress "no referrer" rel parameterhow to remove the "noreferrer" parameter in wordpress why is it so complicated? What is a nofollow link? In the code, a website email list nofollow link is a rel="nofollow"link that contains attributes. For example:google the link attribute does not have to contain onlyrel "nofollow" because it is a nofollow link . The nofollow link can also have other rel attributes such as and .noopenernoreferrernoopener these additional attributes are separated by spaces as follows:googlewhy does "no follow" exist? Relyou can use attributes to notify google of your email list relationship to the linked website . There are several modifier parameters you can use, including:rel="sponsored"— mark links as ads or paid placements (for example, if your brand pays you to link to them from one of your articles). This isn't just "nofollow", it's a slightly new attribute (announced in september 2019) that describes in more detail the relationship with linked websites. Rel="ugc"is an abbreviation for "user generated content". This helps tell google that you, the creator, did not create the link. A common place for links with this attribute is in the comments section or forums of your blog.
